The core working principle of LED automotive headlights lies in the electro-optical conversion process of semiconductor light-emitting diodes (leds), combined with the adaptive design of the automotive electrical system, to achieve efficient and stable lighting functions. The light-emitting Angle of LED beads themselves is relatively narrow (about 120°), and the light is scattered, which cannot directly meet the requirements of "high beam focusing and low beam anti-glare" for car headlights. Therefore, it is necessary to regulate the light through an optical system. The main components include:
Reflector cup/lens
Reflector cup: Through curved surface design, it reflects and converges the scattered light emitted by the LED beads into parallel light, increasing the illumination distance of high beam (usually up to 150-200 meters, far exceeding halogen lamps).
Lens (mostly "dual-beam lens") : Built-in light shield, controlled by a motor to rise and fall the light shield, achieving the switching between "low beam" and "high beam" - when in low beam, the light shield blocks part of the light to prevent direct exposure to the driver of the oncoming vehicle (anti-glare); When in high beam, the light shield is lifted, allowing the light to be fully released and achieving long-distance lighting.
Lamp group structure design The matrix LED headlights of high-end models will divide multiple LED beads into independent units (such as 24 or 32), and each unit is controlled by a separate driver chip. Combined with cameras and sensors (such as ADAS systems), it can achieve "dynamic masking" (for example, after identifying oncoming vehicles, turn off the LED units in the corresponding area). Intelligent functions such as "avoiding glare" and "adaptive steering" (when the vehicle turns, the LED unit in the corresponding direction is illuminated to expand the lighting range).
